Reusable cups
During a series of lectures organised by the Initiative for Sustainable Development (i:ne), a vision emerged for a reusable cup system for Darmstadt, based on the circular economy model. This vision was taken up and realised as part of a one-year research and development project.
The project focused not only on the functional and design optimisation, the materials used and the manufacturing process of the cup, but also on all associated processes such as transport, washing and disposal. The prototype of the cup was unveiled at a press conference in November 2018 as part of European Waste Prevention Week and received an overwhelmingly positive response. In 2020, steps were taken to establish a company, which has since been responsible for bringing the cup and the deposit system to market.
