Tom Philipps (*1966 in Santiago de Chile) is an industrial designer and design researcher. He studied mechanical engineering and industrial design in Darmstadt. This was followed by ten years at "frogdesign" and as a freelance designer in Wiesbaden. Since 2000, he has been a professor of industrial design specialising in drafting and technical design at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. His research specialises in the field of systemic design. For several years he has been working on the further development of the cesar® methodology he developed for systemic product development. As founder of the Innovative Products and Systems (FIPS) research group, he initiates and leads interdisciplinary research and development projects. Many of the projects he has supervised have won national and international awards. He is also a member of various design juries and acts as an expert reviewer.
